چکیده

Relatively few studies have considered cultural dimensions in their analysis of Group Support Systems (GSS) and even fewer have employed empirical data to test their hypotheses. A cross-culturalfleld experiment was used to measure the effects of “‘national culture” (U.S. andMexican) upon group consensus levels and individual satisfaction levels in GSS environments and non-G%’ environments. Experimental results indicate that within the U.S. culture, there were no signiJicant dtfferences in consensus levels between GSS and Manual groups in the ranking of ideas, but that U.S. GSS groups reported greater changes in consensus levels. Results within the Mexican culture, reported higher ranking consensus levels for manual groups, but greater changes in consensus leveb for GSSsupported groups. With regard to satisfaction levels, while U.S. groups reported no dfferences between treatments, Mexican GSS groups reported higher satisfaction levels than Mexican manual groups. While U.S. groups reported no differences in perceived participation equity, Mexican GSS groups reported higher participation equity than Mexican manual groups. There were no dfferences in perceived participation equity between GSS and non-GSS groups reported within either the U.S. or Mexico. However, in comparing U.S. with Mexican groups there were signtficant differences in satisfaction and perceivedparticipation equity between both cultures across all experimental treatments.

Comparison of golden section search method and imperialist competitive algorithm for optimization cut-off grade- case study: Mine No. 1 of Golgohar

Optimization of the exploitation operation is one of the most important issues facing the mining engineers. Since several technical and economic parameters depend on the cut-off grade, optimization of this parameter is of particular importance. The aim of this optimization is to maximize the net present value (NPV). Since the objective function of this problem is non-linear, three methods can b...

The Non-Consensus Process Loss: An Alternative Interpretation

Much of the GSS literature comparing GSS groups with manual groups has produced contrarian results. One of the more confusing is that GSS groups have a higher level of non-consensus than manual groups. Lack of consensus in GSS groups is considered to be a negative aspect of GSS. This paper argues that non-consensus is not necessarily harmful, and proposes an alternative interpretation of non-co...

An analysis of communication mode in group support systems research

Group support systems (GSS) have been the subject of many investigations and meta-analyses over the past decade. This study presents, summarizes, and analyzes the results of 145 experiments that used communication mode as an independent variable. The results show that the modal outcome for GSSs compared to Face-to-Face (FtF) methods is ‘‘no difference,’’ while the overall percentage of positive...

An Investigation of the Influence of National Culture and Group Support Systems on Group Processes and Outcomes

Group support systems (GSS) have been shown to be effective in a variety of managerial applications such as business process reengineering, strategic planning, and intelligence gathering. The majority of experiments and case studies that have reported GSS effectiveness, however, have been conducted in Western environments, which have individualistic and low power-distance cultures. It is not cl...

Improving group decision making: a fuzzy GSS approach

Group decision making methods such as Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) have been developed extensively, but their organizational use for group decision making has been difficult. According to Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem, one possible reason is that a group decision outcome could never satisfy every decision maker’s individual preference. This paper proposes a fuzzy GSS (Group Support Sys...
